My Consign May 2013

It’s time once again for the My Consign sale! It’s the only sale of its kind in the metroplex. What makes it unique? The moms who consign their items are present the day of the sale to answer questions and bargain with you so you get the best deal! And consignors get to keep 100% of their profits from the sale.

We still have openings for consignors for the May 18, 2013 sale. For more information, please visit the My Consign website and sign up for updates here.

Toy Swap!

There comes a time when if you trip over that toy one more time, you’re going to toss it in the trash. We’ve all be there. Is throwing it away the answer? Not always! Come join the ladies of My Consign and join us for a fun, mom’s only event on November 8 from 7-9 at Trinity Bible Church in Richardson!

Think of it as a white elephant toy exchange where you get to get rid of those annoying toy(s) and get to come home with some new toys to tide your children over until Christmas.

How will this even work? First, bundle up those toys! We are asking each mom to make up a bundle (or bundles) worth $10 if sold at a consignment sale. Each bundle “buys” the mom one ticket to get something new from the toys that other moms will bring. We will work it in a white elephant fashion, every mom will draw a number (or numbers if you bring more than one bundle) and we’ll all take turns picking out something new to us and eating some yummy cookies by Richardson’s newest cookie business, Bushel ‘n Peck.

If you don’t see anything you’d like for your children, you can always pick out something for a niece or nephew, etc. or donate the bundle at the end of the night to Network Ministries.

The event does have a small fee of $5 ($7 at the door) which covers rent and refreshments.

Join the event on Facebook so you can pay once the link is posted.

My Consign…After the Event

I think we’ve finally recovered from My Consign! Maybe. My business partner and I met today to conspire for next sale, but we’ve decided to take the rest of the week off and begin again on Monday.

My Consign required way more work than either of us realized when we began. Hours and hours of foot work went into Saturday’s event. We literally pounded the pavement putting flyers on windshield, dropping off flyesr at businesses, stalking Facebook, asking friends who are in moms’ groups to find out how we could advertise to their groups, talking and talking and talking about it every waking hour of our day.

Between the two of us, 8 lbs were lost, countless hours of sleep were done without and one stress induced illness was endured. That isn’t including our poor husbands whom we neglected for two months.

In the end, we learned a lot and can’t wait to do it again! We know what we need to change for next time, know what we did right, so many lessons were learned!

We had a great time meeting so many lovely ladies that we had interacted with for a few weeks online getting ready for the sale. We’re very thankful to our first sale ever consignors, our families who helped us and endured our hours of work and talking about the event, and to everyone who supported and cheered us on.

Mark your calendars for August 4 for our first fall sale! Hope to see you all there.

Consigning, Redesigned

By now I’m sure most of you have heard about the consignment sale I am hosting. I’m also sure some of you have thought, “Another consignment sale?!? Like the metroplex needs another one of those!” But, wait. Hear me out. If you noticed, the name of my post is “Consigning, Redesigned.” I’m not a reinvent the wheel sort of person, but a the wheel is nice, how can I improve it?? And that is exactly what I’ve done.

I adore consignment sales. My mom and I hit one a season. I love the deals and the abundance of choices. If I went to a box store there’s only a few dozen options. At the sales there are SO MANY options all at once because so many brands are represented.

What I don’t like about the sales is the prep work. I have to guess on how much to sell my items for, spend at least an hour entering my items into the computer (I’ve never sold more than 100 items so I’m sure it’s longer for some people), then I’ve got to print the tags, find saftey pins, match up outfits with cryptic tag descriptions, pin, go to the sale, put everything up myself, go home, come back the next day to go to the presale. Then two more days later, I have to go back AGAIN to pick up my unsold items! How many hours is that?!?

In addition to the MANY, MANY hours I spend prepping my items, I loose too much money. 35%!! For ALL MY work! My subtotal of the items I sold this spring was $42.50 (I only brought 21 items this season, all clothing). I lost $10 to consignor fee and then 35%. I’m getting a check for a whopping $17!! AGH! Not enough for all my work! And I have unsold items!

Enter in my solution. My Consign. I know upfront I will have to spend $30 on a booth, but that’s ALL the money I’m out. All the items I sold at the other consignment sale? Most of them wound up going 50% off or 75%! I bet I could have bargained a better deal for myself had I spoken to the buyers. And I wouldn’t have lost 35% in addition to the 50% off discount day!

In short, I do too much work for the other sales to only make $17 I should have just had a garage sale which would have been a lot less prep work but then I’d have shoppers wanting things for only $1! Come consign with My Consign. Take out the middle man, buy a booth, have someone else do the advertising for you, invite your friends, and have a few hours out of the house to socialize with other moms and make money in the process. You may even find a few good deals for your own children.
