By now I’m sure most of you have heard about the consignment sale I am hosting. I’m also sure some of you have thought, “Another consignment sale?!? Like the metroplex needs another one of those!” But, wait. Hear me out. If you noticed, the name of my post is “Consigning, Redesigned.” I’m not a reinvent the wheel sort of person, but a the wheel is nice, how can I improve it?? And that is exactly what I’ve done.
I adore consignment sales. My mom and I hit one a season. I love the deals and the abundance of choices. If I went to a box store there’s only a few dozen options. At the sales there are SO MANY options all at once because so many brands are represented.
What I don’t like about the sales is the prep work. I have to guess on how much to sell my items for, spend at least an hour entering my items into the computer (I’ve never sold more than 100 items so I’m sure it’s longer for some people), then I’ve got to print the tags, find saftey pins, match up outfits with cryptic tag descriptions, pin, go to the sale, put everything up myself, go home, come back the next day to go to the presale. Then two more days later, I have to go back AGAIN to pick up my unsold items! How many hours is that?!?
In addition to the MANY, MANY hours I spend prepping my items, I loose too much money. 35%!! For ALL MY work! My subtotal of the items I sold this spring was $42.50 (I only brought 21 items this season, all clothing). I lost $10 to consignor fee and then 35%. I’m getting a check for a whopping $17!! AGH! Not enough for all my work! And I have unsold items!
Enter in my solution. My Consign. I know upfront I will have to spend $30 on a booth, but that’s ALL the money I’m out. All the items I sold at the other consignment sale? Most of them wound up going 50% off or 75%! I bet I could have bargained a better deal for myself had I spoken to the buyers. And I wouldn’t have lost 35% in addition to the 50% off discount day!
In short, I do too much work for the other sales to only make $17 I should have just had a garage sale which would have been a lot less prep work but then I’d have shoppers wanting things for only $1! Come consign with My Consign. Take out the middle man, buy a booth, have someone else do the advertising for you, invite your friends, and have a few hours out of the house to socialize with other moms and make money in the process. You may even find a few good deals for your own children.
